[ARCHIVED] Snow Parking Restrictions

SNOW

SNOW PARKING RESTRICTIONS

Lake Zurich snow parking restrictions are in effect when 1-2 inches of snow has fallen. There is no parking allowed on any Village Street during these times.

Parking on streets is prohibited to allow for easier plow operations. Vehicle owners are responsible for all towing and storage costs.

Snow removal begins with the major roadways first and then expands to residential side streets and cul-de-sacs.

Everyone uses side-discharge plows, meaning that you should expect snow to be piled up at the end of your driveway.

CLEARING OF SIDEWALKS

Lake Zurich does not have an ordinance that requires residents to remove snow from the sidewalks adjacent to their property. However, the Village certainly encourages residents to take the neighborly initiative and shovel snow from sidewalks.

Sidewalk users can include school age children, exercise enthusiasts and emergency service providers.  Given limited resources of a small village government, it is not possible for Lake Zurich crews to remove snow from all residential sidewalks in town. Therefore, during snow events residents are asked to assist by removing snow from public sidewalks.

MAILBOXES

From time to time a plow driver may hit your mailbox, or just the mere weight of the snow (or heavy slush) may knock down your mailbox. If a properly installed mailbox located within the Village’s right of way is damaged by the Village, then the Village shall be required to:

  • Repair such mailbox, or

  • Replace such mailbox with a standard U.S. Postal Service box and support structure complying with the standards set forth in Section 7-1-5-2 of Municipal Code, or

  • Reimburse the owner for damages in amounts limited as follows: not more than $30 for replacement of a post; or not more than $20 for replacement of a mailbox; or not more than $50 for replacement of both a post and a mailbox.

  • Mailbox replacement is the standard box, model 1C. If the post is damaged, it will be repaired “temporarily” and replaced after the ground thaws, in spring or summer. Not all mailbox damage is from the Village snowplow equipment. Old, rotted, rusted-through posts, or vandalized boxes are not the Village’s responsibility.

For questions or concerns please contact the Public Works Department Monday thru Friday 7 am to 3 pm at 847-540-1696.

Any after hours snow related concerns please contact Lake Zurich Police Department non emergency number at 847-438-2349.
