Lake Zurich Named 'Green Power Community' by United States EPA

Lake Zurich residents, businesses and municipal operations collectively used 50.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually between July 2023 and August 2024. This is enough green power to meet nearly 22% of the electricity use of the entire community.

  • That is equivalent to the power it would take to drive 136 million miles by electric car...or about 5,462 times around Planet Earth.
  • That is also equivalent to the power it would take to fully power the electricity us of almost 5,000 homes.

This high level of green energy consumption is expected to continue through 2025.

This green power accomplishment is achieved through Lake Zurich’s Green Electric Community Choice Aggregation Program that gives residents and small businesses a choice to support clean, renewable energy development. By implementing this program, the Village of Lake Zurich is helping to lead the transition to a clean energy future.

This Green Electric Community Choice program gives the Village access to 100% green power Renewable Energy Certificates (“RECs”), produced by Midwest-located wind farms, solar, and hydroelectric facilities. An REC is a market-based instrument that represents the property rights to the environmental, social and other non-power attributes of renewable electricity generation.

Nobody is required to participate in the Green Electric program and any individual homeowner can join or leave the program without a penalty, enrollment, or switch fee.

We’ve switched to clean, renewable electricity.   Make the switch and join us!
