Rock The Block - September 13, 2014 6-11 PM
Dine • Dance • Rediscover Downtown
The Village of Lake Zurich will host its first ever downtown block party, Rock The Block, on September 13, 2013 from 6 - 11 P.M. Planned as an all-ages traditional street dance, partygoers are invited to Dine, Dance and (re)discover downtown Lake Zurich. Three live bands take the stage for an evening of music, food and fun, and young party goers can visit the face painter and balloon art, sponsored by Lake Zurich Tire and Auto. The event will be held on Main Street in downtown Lake Zurich, (approximately 70 E. Main Street) and Main Street will be closed from Church Street to Old Rand beginning at 3 P.M. on the day of the event. Lake Zurich Mayor Tom Poynton, Village Trustees and staff, local community leaders, and the public will attend.
This event is the Village of Lake Zurich’s first foray into sponsoring a large scale downtown event and planning for this event has been a community effort. The Rock The Block committee, headed by Park Manager Dave Peterson, is comprised of representatives from The Rotary Club, Lions Club, the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce, local business owners Joe Schweda (Scoreboard Bar and Grill), Bonnie Conte (Avalon Salon and Day Spa) and Lake Zurich residents. The committee has worked together over the past three months to bring together all the elements needed for a successful event.
For the night’s musical entertainment, a covered stage sponsored by Midwest Motors will be erected at Church Street and Main Street. Bands this year are:

The St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) Food Pantry, located at the St. Francis de Sales Ministry Center in Lake Zurich, provides packaged food, fresh produce and meat to over 150 families per week within Lake County. The Food Pantry is completely dependent on donations of food or money which is used to purchase food at deep discounts from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Every $1 raised supplies 5 meals to our clients. Volunteers who gather, shelve and donate food make it possible for the food pantry to distribute 100% of the donations for anti-hunger relief.
The Food Pantry is one part of SVDP, many other services are provided through a team of dedicated volunteers: the personal involvement of caseworkers, numerous food harvesters, more than 40 people who volunteer every Thursday at the pantry, the crew that take in the weekly Northern Illinois Food Bank delivery, special help for the men and women who were cared for after our recent local flood, and other scenarios. All made possible exclusively by volunteers, by the blessed people of our parish, and by our generous community who support us (often anonymously). Woman and men who regularly "pay it forward" to those in our Community. This is your St. Vincent de Paul Society located at St. Francis de Sales, Lake Zurich, Illinois. www.svdplz.org.
