Health & Wellness Program

The Village of Lake Zurich offers a variety of health and wellness programs for our community.

A current listing of offerings can be found in our seasonal program brochure, viewed on-line or can be picked up at the Paulus Park Barn. Punch cards are available to use for all of our group fitness classes (with the exception of aerial yoga).  Each punch entitles you to one class and, depending on the punch card you purchase, can be valid for a variety of classes for up to 6 months from the time of purchase.  

Classes must achieve minimum enrollment standards to run so make sure to register early. Ages 12 and up may attend fitness classes when accompanied by an adult.  All classes subject to change.

A Healthier You
The health risks associated with inactivity include: premature death, heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, adult-onset diabetes, osteoporosis, stroke, depression, cancer and other health-related illnesses. Even moderate amounts of exercise are attributed to:

Adult Aviana Tree Yoga
This class is a delight to nourish the mind, body, and spirit. Join us as we connect to the stable support of the oak tree and gaze up at the leaves while flowing in and out of yoga poses with the aerial yoga hammocks.
Aerial yoga offers wonderful benefits to the body such as inversion therapy, myofascial release, lymphatic massage, core strengthening, and muscle lengthening. The practice is entirely safe and easily accessible for a broad range of fitness levels. This class is a unique opportunity unlike any other to explore a way to exercise, stretch, relax, and even meditate while cocooned in your own colorful hammock while in an Oak Tree. Beginner Friendly. No aerial yoga experience required. Rare class opportunity. Limited Space.

Adult Hapkido
AGES: 18+ YEARS OLD
Classes focus on cardio vascular fitness, stretching, basic punching and kicking, body awareness, and more. Our school specializes in street self-defense. There is a uniform charge on site. Little Ninjas is $35 and Hapkido is $60.

Adult Hip Hop
AGES: 16+ YEARS OLD
Hip-hop dancing incorporates a variety of old and new urban dance styles. The dancing represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music. Hip-Hop dance is very dynamic and improvisational in nature, with jumps, breakages, and rotations in the movements. Hip hop dancing is considered a good exercise and helps the dancers to improve flexibility, to develop body balance, and to coordinate the muscles. No prior experience is necessary.

Aerial Yoga Demo Day
AGES: 7+ YEARS OLD - ADULT
Come to check out what aerial yoga is all about while flirting with gravity and listening to the secrets whispered through the leaves of the solid oak tree. Mini-sessions offers you an opportunity to try a couple of poses in the hammock and time in the cozy colorful cocoon for relaxation.

Cardio Fitness Karate
AGES: 16+ YEARS OLD
A fun and challenging cardio fitness workout that can tone both your upper and lower body as well as your Abs while teaching you self defense techniques. No physical contact. This class is designed to benefit all fitness levels. No experience necessary.

Children’s Aviana Tree Yoga
AGES: 7-17 YEARS OLD
The grand presence of the oak with outstretched limbs calls the children to come and play from her branches, to release fits of laughter for all of the fairy folk to hear. Welcoming colorful aerial yoga hammocks to be hung securely onto her limbs, the oak sister sends her invitation.
A unique and fun class filled with moments of mindfulness balanced by lots of playfulness. Aerial yoga offers a vibrant way for kids to engage in yoga techniques while surrounded by nature and nurtured by the oak tree’s strong branches. This class will feature time to breath, stretch, play like a fairy or bird, and relax for a meditation, cocooned comfortably in the soft fabric watching the leaves on the branches blow in the breeze.

Mother/Daughter Aerial Yoga Playshop
AGES: 7 YEARS OLD-ADULT
Come spread your wings and soar! This FUN playshop is a great way to have a fun Saturday morning with your beautiful daughter and explore the amazing benefits of aerial yoga while enjoying the outdoors! Aviana Yoga offers you this exciting opportunity to hang from the oak trees of Paulus Park while moving with a sense of ease and grace with the support of a brightly colored soft hammock. Aerial yoga is a wonderful way to explore dynamic stretches and movements with the body branching out of the box of the mundane into a whole new world of PLAY! Both of you will be glowing by the end of class!

Pilates Mat
AGES: 16+ YEARS OLD
Pilates Mat is a great way to strengthen your core muscles, as well as develop control and endurance within the major muscle groups. We will focus on alignment, breathing, developing a strong powerhouse and improve coordination and balance. The Pilates Mat regimen allows for different exercises to be modified for all fitness levels. The intensity can be increased over time, as the body conditions and adapts to the specific exercises. Please bring a mat and a towel.

Tennis Programs (Outdoor)
AGE: 16+ YEARS OLD
Come play one of the most social sports in the world! This tennis class is for adults who have never played before or have limited experience. Players will focus on footwork, forehand and backhand stroke mechanics, overhead serve, return of serve, volley placement, cooperative consistency and more. Our teachers will help participants understand the fundamentals of tennis to make the sport more enjoyable. Players must bring their own rackets. Tennis balls will be supplied.

Power Hour
AGES: 16+ YEARS OLD
Work your muscles from head to toe and improve your strength using weights, bands, tubing, and exercise balls. This workout builds strength while toning and sculpting the body.

Adult Golf Lessons
AGES: ADULTS/HS+
Learn basic golf skills including full swing, chipping and putting. Golf rules and etiquette will also be discussed. Lessons are taught in a small group by a PGA Golf Pro.

PIYO Strength–High Intensity, Low-Impact for a NEW Kind of Strong
AGES: 16+ YEARS OLD
PIYO is a music driven, athletic workout inspired by the mind/body practices of Pilates and Yoga, which includes flexibility training, strength training, conditioning and dynamic movement. Each class will incorporate the following styles of movement, such as Focus (Poses are held to increase strength), Flow (Rhythmic styles that generates heat in the body and produces sweat), and Fusion (A blend of focus and flow to incorporate dynamic balance and functional training).
Achieve wellness by reducing stress, strengthening core muscles and overall toning. Please bring a mat….class is performed barefoot. (If you choose, please use Lyrical half-sole slip on shoes or socks.)

Self-Defense
AGES: 14 YEARS OLD–ADULT
Participants learn and practice a variety of strategies to be better prepared if faced with uncomfortable, intrusive, or dangerous situations with people they know as well as with strangers. Physical drills which improve speed, agility, strength, endurance, and coordination will enhance overall fitness. This class is designed to be both challenging and fun while learning the necessary skills to effectively defend oneself. n On your first day of class, please wear comfortable fitness clothes. Please see the instructor to purchase the mandatory uniform and equipment (ranges from $20-$30).

Yoga –All Levels

Let’s take a moment to step away from our busy lives and dedicate some time to honoring the body, mind, and spirit. This class is for beginners, as well as those who have been practicing a while. What to expect? Beginning of class, breathing and centering, learning to use that breathe to move the body in and out of the poses as we warm up with
Vinyasa flow, then holding certain poses to gain strength, as we wind down, stretching with the heat we created, and then final relaxation, with an optional temple massage. We practice in dim lighting, great music, for an experience that allows us to walk away renewed. Please remember to bring a mat to class.

Zumba®
AGES: 16+ YEARS OLD
Zumba® is perfect for everybody and everybody! Each Zumba® class is designed to bring people together to sweat it out. We take the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective and super fun!
